I spent the weekend on my final garment, and I think I
was able to get a little bit of work done but I wish I could have done a bit more
so I will pull all/ most of my focus onto really cracking down on the
sustainability project so I can finish it on time, if not earlier. I would
really like to have my entire project finished so I can have a nice hand in on
Friday.
I came into college on Monday hoping to crack down on
starting my initial patterns for my toile. Quickly inquiring about the facing
pattern piece that I would need for my waistcoat beforehand. I did start on
this and found out that I would need to think a little bit more about how
things work because I forgot I could use a princess seam in my work. However,
most of the lesson was spent talking about where we were up to now in terms of
bookwork. I have been really struggling with my bookwork and keeping on track
and organised with it, so I received some harsh but true criticism on the state
of my book. While I don't think I will spend tonight on it, I will spend
Tuesday night catching up on what I can for this project.
Photography was like last week, no photoshoots and working
on our zines. I think I was able to get a good amount done, being able to keep
my pages simple but effective while changing the colours and style of each
project that I did. when laying out the pages, I would think about the
different ways that images could be laid out on the page that would work well
with the theme of the photoshoot present on that page. I believe I was able to
do this well.
This Tuesday, we are finally back to our normal work after
having a good couple of sessions with talks in them. I used this opportunity
for my last stretch class to get my base dress done for my final piece. When I
think about what I will create for this project, I think I will complete a
sculptural garment, something that isn't meant to be worn and is more a piece
of art than something you would wear. I also came up with ideas to make the
design look like rubbish in the ocean rather than just a landfill, i.e. using a
muddy pool of water to cover the rubbish I have collected in, ripping/ tearing
some of them. creating holes in them and possibly adding bit of the blue fabric
that I used for my skirt project (likely also covered in dirt so it flows with
the rest of the sculpture) to act as a reflecting fabric representing the
water. I also made the base dress grey because the water in contaminated areas
is grey and unclear.

With Sam, I kept on with my creating process of my final
piece managing to almost finish the skirt with only some hems and a button to
put on, other than this the only thing I have left is the waistcoat, my aim is
to get it mostly if not all finished on Wednesday, though I can't work all
afternoon due to having to go somewhere in the evening. On Thursday, my aim is
to simply be doing bookwork along with any crochet, knitting or boro-stitching
that I might want to add to the garment. I think I was able to work at a decent
pace and finish off what I could in a timely manner.
On Wednesday, I talked to Lareen after I spent Tuesday
afternoon on fixing my pattern cutting folder and she thought I had improved
but also recommended how I could improve my layout so that I could make the
pages more visually interesting which I found helpful. I spent the rest of the
lesson a bit confused on how I would complete the dress design for my final
piece but with a little bit of questioning and problem solving along with help
from Lareen, I was able to understand what I needed to do to pattern it out. My
main problem was patterning the dress wrong in the first place.
When I got home, my focus was fully on completing my final piece and while I didn't get it all finished, I was able to get a satisfactory amount done considering I was leaving the house at five pm and arriving back at ten pm. During the afternoon I was able to fully complete my skirt and start a good chunk of my bodice so my hope was that Thursday would be costly about my bookwork.
During Thursday i did spend a little bit longer on my final piece than i wanted to because i woke up a bit late. This didn't harm me too much but might limit the amount of attachments i can do with my sustainable techniques. I managed to finish my bodice during the afternoon and i did two more crochet experiments before i starting collecting all the images i will need for my bookwork and managed to cut them all out ready for me to organise everything by four pm Friday.
Friday morning was stressful and when i got into class, i immediately began to crack down on my bookwork managing to get it all done by around one pm. The rest of my time was being spent on getting all evaluations done and more crochet for my final piece that i will attach with safety pins so that they can be moved and arranged differently, giving a bit of variety in how the garment can be worn.
