Week 12 (2/12/24) - (6/12/24)

I came in early on Monday because I wanted to be able to get work done on my skirt. I spent the time before and the time during the lesson getting every single one of the French seams that I hadn't completed, finished and sewn. This was fine for me, though a bit frustrating that it took me that long, because as I kept doing the French seams I got more and more confident in my ability to complete them.

In photography the only thing I had to do was to write down an evaluation for the Triptych I had done the week before, in which I admit that my evaluation for that specific outcome was much better (though with room for improvement) than all the previous evaluations found in my book. I then only had to put the essays that I had been working on into my book and I was finished, spending the rest of the lesson catching up on a little bit of my folder work for my skirt.

Stretch was a relaxing lesson because we started a new mini project where we are tasked to create a Christmas card. I had a few more overt ideas for this project, but I managed to pick my final design in the lesson in which I think the lack of an obvious tie to Christmas makes it more interesting. There are thousands of cards designs with trees, snowmen, presents etc. However, I decided to go with my design that had a small hedgehog hibernating for winter. I think this design is successful and is more interesting than the other four designs I had created from my mood board and my initial design ideas.

When I got to Sam's lesson, I decided that I needed to work on finishing my zine since I knew in my head that if I didn't and I put it off, it wouldn't get finished/ would take much longer to finish than it needed to. This meant that it was a more relaxed lesson as well because I was able to use both my previous research that I had done and online research to complete all the small notes for each page in my zine that only need to be sewn into the zine.

Charlie's CAD lesson was a mixed bag since people were simply getting on with assignment work, so there wasn't anything being taught, I decided on continuing my work for my zine and having a bit of a break from work since I have found myself working a lot without giving myself much time to just relax and take my mind off of the work to reduce the stress. The only other thing I did during this lesson was to write a small list of things that I need to get done for Friday - the deadline.

At home, I spent the entire afternoon and evening putting everything that I had into my zine. This did take a while and I haven't quite finished it, only needing to do a few more pages and a couple of seams to be able to finish it off.

Wednesday's lesson with Lareen gave be a little bit of hope that I can manage to finish my skirt and my sketchbook on time because I already have my order of things that I need to do and the order that I want to do them in. (finish the top layer of my skirt, attach the waistband, thread the elastic and close the channel, and sew all the other layers of the skirt together). While I made a couple of mistakes when attaching my first layer onto the underskirt, I successfully gathered and attached it, learning from all the mistakes I did make so I can reduce the likelihood of me repeating those mistakes for the other layered pieces that I need to attach. My aim is to finish my skirt today, with a little bit of leeway for tomorrow where I have got the entire day to complete as much as possible to reduce the stress that I will feel on Friday.

For the entirety of the day on Thursday I elected to complete all the things that I had yet to complete, my skirt, my zine and my sketchbook for Sam. However, of course, nothing took the time I wanted it to and I made quite a few mistakes on my skirt that it took me a while to fix them. Therefore, throughout the day I was only able to complete me skirt and my zine and I spent the rest of the time I had left finishing Sam's work.
