Week 14 (16/12/24) - (22/12/24)
This week began with me learning how to create bodice yokes that you would find on a traditional shirt. This was so i could create a mini version out of fabric because i knew it would be difficult for me to understand how the different pattern pieces work together. I was unable to complete cutting the fabric out for this so i decided to do that later in the day. I found this process a little bit challenging to understand but i was able to catch on quickly to what was going on in the patterns.
During my study period i decided to cut out the rest of my patterns so i could sew the bodice together at home.
When i got to photography, Calvin had gone home so the lesson was free for me to catch up on any work that i needed to. I used this time to sew the bodice together. I came across one major problem with my darts, i am a bit unsure why but the pleats were too small, so i made them bigger and they were a bit too big so i sewed in between the two previous lines of sewing to get a better pleat and managed to get the right size for the pleats. Other than that, the only other problem i came across was putting in the yoke and bagging it out because i was a bit worried i would sew through the other parts of the bodice when bagging out the yoke with the burrito method. I managed to go slow and push the bulk of fabric out of the way so i could sew a nice straight line and finish off the yoke. I remembered to iron everything as i went which is a good practice for me and helped me to achieve a neat final product.
On Tuesday I only had a small amount of things to write before i could hand in my final presentation on my Christmas card project. This meant that i was able to finish it quickly and had the rest of the lesson to either catch up on a bit of my work or have a bit of a break.
With Sam i developed my research into each of my artists by creating a couple of pieces inspired by each of there work that i can put in my sketchbook/ folder as a bit of work to help me understand each artists process even more. I was most interested in Jackson Pollock and El Lissitzky when i did this because i found their are to be the most intriguing out of the artists that i had chosen. I might consider using their work for my final pieces, i just need to understand how i could make each artist work with the assignment and how i could use shapes and colours from their work.
With Charlie, i learnt how to create fashion flats in Illustrator which will help me in the future to be able to create some of my designs digitally.
On Wednesday, i learnt how to create panelled bodices with princess seams coming both from the arm or the shoulder, the shoulder seam was easy to understand because all it required was getting rid of darts. However, creating the arm princess seam was difficult because the back had a difficult aspect that i needed to get right. I wasn't able to get the seam just right so i will try to alter my patterns in the future to be able to avoid this.
