Week 26 (28/4/25) - (2/5/25)

On Monday Morning, I woke up and decided that because I start later in the day (even if only by a little bit) I would use the time before that together all the images that I will have to put into my folder, print them off and cut them out. I did this to save time because I wouldn't have the time to do this later.

This helped a lot and because I have finished my garment on the weekend, I am able to spend the entire week until the Wednesday hand in, working on bookwork. I already had a plan before walking into college. I have already caught up with my other classes so after college on Monday I will work on my pattern diary of making and my toile diary of making along with the evaluations for both of these, I will then spend Tuesday afternoon creating the final diary of making, a page on my final piece with photos of it on there and my final evaluation that will be a mix of my evaluation for the creation of my final piece and also my overall thought on how this project went for me and what I can do to improve it for future projects.

I spent Lareen's lesson on Monday creating pages for my book and discussing how I could create my pattern diary of making sense I have been having trouble all year in my projects on how to organise this part of my book. Beforehand, I was working on creating my pattern diary of making how I would create the other diary of making pages in my book, but it wasn't working out for me because then I'd have lots of pages filled with my patterns but no writing on them, so they looked very barren. I think the way I have decided to do it has allowed me to create a mix even if I say on some pages 'look at this page for my pattern making process and understanding'. I created one of these pages and then spent the rest of the lesson after filling in some of the missing pages in my book, creating pages for my book so that I can have a cohesive background for my folder work.

I used my study period to finish off putting the patterns in the pages with only a couple of pages missing that I will have to prepare when I get home. I didn't write on the pages during this time because I will do this at home, I didn't have time to do this within my study period.

During the photography lesson with Calvin, we showed each other our work in progress for the fashion films and discussed interesting things about them along with improvements that we could make to enhance the film and the shots. I found the advice comprehensive, and it was improved my ideas for what we will shoot for our final fashion film.

At home, I did manage to complete everything that I had set out to do by the time I went to bed.

I knew that stretch wasn't going to be filled with much today because today is the hand in for our final pieces, but I had already finished it last week. This meant that I only had to decide on the name of my piece and a small description to go along with it so that if it gets chosen to be exhibited people can read a little bit about the intention behind the piece. I still need to do an overall evaluation for the project, but I will do that next week along with making sure all my bookwork is finished ready for the book hand in deadline.

I came into Sam's lesson with a decently filled book with all that we found necessary now though I do want to have more fabric experiments to play around with what we can do. Despite this we presented our books to the class as a group, and we got a lot of criticism on our presentation because it was very disorganised and hard to follow but we will take that and improve it if we do it again. Other than this, we spent the lesson creating initial designs based on our drawing experiments and mood board. To do this we decided that each of us would create initial designs within the range of 10-15. We completed this and then used the rest of the lesson to discuss between each other what different designs we found interesting in each other’s work and what each of us should continue and improve from ready for Friday where we will create our final designs. This lesson was a lot of discussion because we magpie off each other and talked about different things as we did initial designs to inspire each other.

Charlie led us through a lesson on editorialisation and layout to allow us to understand the work and thought process of a team creating a look book, he also had us create small books to experiment individually with ideas for layouts of pages. I found this informative, and I think I can learn a lot from creating small books to think about the best ways to plan things out.

At home, I also managed to complete all of Lareen's work ready for hand in on Wednesday so I am happy with where I left off, though it is still unfortunate that I couldn't do more.

When I came into college on Wednesday, I spent a couple of minutes finishing off last touches like highlighting important information on some pages to make them less bland but other than that I was able to hand it in finished to a decent standard. For the rest of the lesson and a bit into the next lesson, we had a talk hosted by Lee from Samuel Brothers about tailoring and the fashion industry. I found this very interesting and highly insightful because it allowed me to make considerations for what I need to do to get ahead and different things I can consider in the industry like lace work and weaving that need more people in it rather than the over saturated parts of the industry like fashion design. I learnt things about tailoring that I hadn't considered before like movement in the clothes effecting how the clothes are tailored which I found very interesting. I made notes throughout this so I will look back to remind myself on things that I want to get right during my time at college and as I hopefully go into a career in the fashion industry.

On Thursday, I took the time to create some experiments to inspire me during my design process, I thought about different things I had discussed with my group and ideas that I had found myself. Some of the techniques did take a lot of time but I think I've been able to create a decent number of ideas for before my design process. I also took the time to develop the designs that my group had decided were the most interesting so that I can become closer to my final design, making sure I put pictures of the influence from our mood board next to the different designs to show the influence.

During the lesson on Friday, we as a team looked at our developed designs and decided which ones we want to carry on developing. I then took the lesson to develop the design that we decided from my work. Throughout this process I got feedback from my team, and I gave feedback to others, this was to make our designs more successful and cohesive with each other. One of the biggest feedback items I received was that I wasn't really expanding from the original design and that it would be interesting to develop the design into an entirely new direction. This led to a good idea about my final design that I will create over the weekend. Taking the advice from Sam about going back to the actual shapes of the building, I will also try and link my final design closer to the shapes of the building.
