Week 28 (12/5/25) - (18/5/25)

This Monday, I asked Lareen for help to create the panel that stands up on my bodice. She helped me to understand what I need to do to be able to pattern it: using a mannequin. This helped make the process a lot easier and I was able to properly take the panel up. During this lesson, Jake was testing some of the patterns and he tried out the peplum that I helped Harriet make (with boning) and we found that it was much too long, and it didn't look right so Harriet will alter the pattern a little bit to fix this issue. I also patterned the front of my skirt during this lesson and spent the study period after this lesson cutting up the panels and adding seam allowances to everything so I can more onto the next stage of the pattern process.

In the afternoon, during photography, I was finally able to access my zine on the computer and save it so I could continue working on my zine compared to the week before last where I couldn't access InDesign as there is an issue with the ethernet. There is still that issue, but I used my hotspot to be able to access the file and save it. Because we were also doing a photoshoot on 'inflate' I didn't get to do much, but I did finish another double page. I don't have much time, but I want to at least have 16 slides ready to print for the deadline. The 'inflate' shoot was interesting, we had some balloons that we could use but Calvin wanted us to be original with it. I did eventually use the balloons when it came to my shoot, but I made it interesting by putting the balloons under my clothes. I feel like it made my skirt look like a historical one with how wide it was.

At home, I created the Lino prints from both mine and charlottes design that we created last week, and I think they both turned out good, but I could have done my Lino print better by trimming it down to make them sit closer together. I would have to get a good amount of paint to be able to cover the amount of space we need on our designs. I think my use of a sponge helps there to be an even coating of paint on the stamp.

In stretch, we were able to use the lesson to get on with any work that was there for any other lesson, and we will start the next project next week. I took this time to do a final experiment of sashiko with a white fabric and blue thread, though I'm sure we will use blue fabric and white thread, I just wanted to test it out. I also wrote some analysis on one of my design pages so that I could keep up a little bit with my bookwork but currently my time is consumed my patterns which will hopefully be done by Wednesday so I can spend the rest of the week on bookwork and experiments.

In lesson I created a pattern for my sleeve and then spent the entire lesson communicating with my team on supplies that we will need for my final pieces like fabrics and components along with materials for textile techniques. This took up the entire lesson because we were looking over the internet for the best options for the best prince and I think by the end of the lesson we were able to get pretty much everything ready for when we will order it.

The last lesson was with Charlie, and we worked on compositions for our front cover of our look book. To do this we reminded ourselves of design principles which I think was very helpful because it reminded me of how I can create good designs without doing much. At the end of the lesson, I think I have a good idea of what I will be doing.

On Wednesday, I was finishing off my patterns by doing the back bodice and adding seam allowance to everything. Jake helped me out with this to allow the patterns to be done by the end of the lesson which was greatly appreciated. The only thing I need to do which I had forgotten about was the strap for the sleeve which I will do myself ready for Friday since Harriet is going to toile my dress. This relives some stress off me, and I will do bookwork at home for the next few days until Friday.

During tutorials we created lay plans and costings for the different fabrics that we are going to get. This was very helpful when figuring out how much fabric we will need to buy. This took all lesson, and we talked about how much it would cost but then we switched, and Jake will try and buy the fabric in person so we can get a discount. I have bought the things from amazon and charlotte has bought the zips. Hopefully we will be able to work at a good pace to get everything cut out and ready next week to get a good pace on creating the final pieces.

On Thursday, I created my toile for the strap on my sleeve. It was a bit difficult because I had to figure out how big I wanted to elastic so that it would stay on the arm whilst still being able to stretch enough to go over the arm. I ended up deciding on 36cm and created the pattern for the strap itself by stretching it out to the fullest it could get to which was around another 10cm. This will allow for the strap to still be able to stretch but will gather up the strap when it is not around the arm but that is fine because it is meant for function.

Friday was a time to check all my patterns to make sure that they were all correct and that took most of my time up in Sam's lesson. I went through them and corrected all the notes I made on them showing all the positions of the different panels. That was the most important part.

The weekend was spent catching up with bookwork the best of my abilities. This included me catching up with missing annotations and me creating my pattern cutting diary of making. I spent one day on each of them. More specifically for my pattern cutting folder, I had printed pages of my mark making from my sketchbook on Friday to use as backgrounds for this.

prince and I think by the end of the lesson we were able to get pretty much everything ready for when we will order it.
